If I wanted to become a touring artist, what strategy would I use?
The main aim would be to be in a strong position to pitch to the management (*see below) of an artist who make similar music to your genre, but realistically you cannot pitch as a new artist to the management of an artist who is highly established, you have to start small and work your way up.
If you can get featured as an opening act for an artist that performs in your country, that would be an ideal aim.
Prior to that happening, I would recommend several possibilities:
1. Building a YouTube based Portfolio 2. Entering local Talent Shows 3. Getting involved in any ‘Open Mic’ events you can find & attend 4. Consider Street Busking 5. Invest in support from a professional photographer to support your online audio 6. Invest in support from a professional stylist and approach a modelling agency 7. Try to get a slot at a charity gig (in UK there is Oxjam [run by Oxfam]) 8. A Glastonbury appearance would be helpful (UK but find a local equivalent) 9. Ultimately find ANY stage and get on it and perform (with permission!) 10. Try to have these performances recorded so you can pitch to management.*
You’ll probably need a Booking Agent and the best way I know of to find this would be via Music Clout. Google it.
I’m not going to write any more about this tonight but I might elaborate on each of these 10 options tomorrow.
