I was recently asked why I do song reviews if i’m not getting paid for it.
I understand why now!
Probably the same reason we love celebrities & call ourselves fans.
As musicians, it’s actually quite normal to put effort in, and get nothing back out of it.
That’s how we get better at what we do.
Our aim might not have been to get good at our instrument, it might have been so we can share a message through our music, but in trying to, we get better at using the instrument.
If we lived in a way where we only put effort in to things that we get something back from it, the instant gratification, we would probably give up on making music and just play computer games instead.
I know for a fact that I can spend one hundred hours making a song, and struggle to get it listened to. It’s happened to me before.
So this is why i’m able to write a song review and not receive money for it.
I’ve learned to value other things, not just money.
It’s actually quite sad when I see how much some artists appreciate the support I give them, because I think it should be normal for them. They should always be getting that kind of support & not just from me.
But then there are other artists who get lots of support, and they don’t even appreciate it. Won’t even reply to comments on soundcloud. Acting like divas!
We all have a choice.
Make efforts only where we are appreciated, or make efforts regardless.
If you are drowning, I recommend you keep trying to swim instead of giving up and sinking.
