woah, what a powerful, epic and atmospheric start!
very sophisticated sound design and ambience.
timpani drum rolls as a dramatic buildup
lots of sonic variety and unpredictable, densely rich suspense.
drums come in
some unique drum rolls
1:19
excellent drop!
very heavy bass design ideas
lots of unpredictability and vocal chants interjecting the sound design.
this is the type of dubstep that will likely start a mosh pit.
around 2:13 there is an ambient break.
2:31 there is a melodic element coming in with an excellent sense of layering of instruments and ambience.
This dubstep producer is unique in song structuring, balance between harsh sound design versus creative ambience as a signature.
3:13 - another drop injected by an otherworldly vocoded dialogue.
I would say that the bass sound design can be a tiny bit repetitive, but i have to point out that would be unfair to the artist who has clearly made an effort to balance this with ambience.
Looking at the sound design aspect alone would be a one-dimensional way of viewing this song, the ambience is where the dynamics and variety is at it's best.
Dubstep is difficult to judge, because the majority of Dubstep songs are really dependent on how unique the sound design is. So if this song was judged on uniqueness of sound design alone, i would say 8/10.
But considering what i said about the sense of balance, variety found hidden in the well thought out song structure and vocal chant/dialogue based decorations, this song in my opinion definitely deserves a 10/10.
It is an avant garde form of dubstep, and won't necessarily be every dubstep fan's 'cup of tea', but from the perspective of a classically trained musician, i think this song is remarkably diverse and beautifully intricate in its own way.
I look forward to KAON learning more about sound design, because if he becomes a market leader in THAT field, other dubstep producers would potentially struggle against his sense of dramatic dynamics.
Even the song title proves this was not an accident. it is like a form of brutal poetry & bass opera.
Have you ever heard that before?
Honestly, giving this song a 9 out of 10 would be short-changing him.
10/10, but not because of sound design.
It is just one of the most dramatic & well-thought out dubstep songs i've ever heard.
A lot of people will probably disagree with me, I'm aware of that. This is my subjective opinion.
I'm not looking at this song as a 'dubstep song', i'm looking at this song as a 'song'.
A piece of music.
A very GOOD one, at that
I haven't gotten into DJing yet, but I would DEFINITELY spin this one.
