"an idea that will have to wait"
When I woke up this morning I had songs playing in my head, ones I had recently heard while making the Vodafone Big Top 40 Playlist. soundcloud.com/audiozoo_promotions/sets/vodafone-big-top-40-02-july
I figured it would be a cool idea to make a mashup that contains the songs. So I started writing down the song names as I remembered them, then did a bit of research to work out what the correct complete song titles and artist names were.
Then I went to YouTube to check the correct pitch that the Mike Posner (Seeb Remix) was supposed to be playing at, because one version I found seemed to be a different key to what I remembered hearing on the radio a few days ago.
I then figured I should collect the uploaded versions on YouTube that contained no dialogue or sound effects, just the clean recording of the song, so that I could get the audio and make the mashup.
Since I was going to rip the audio from the YouTube videos, I figured the least I could do to support the artists was share the songs on Twitter so that they could be more discovered and somehow justify the song ripping.
After watching the Sigala video again, I remembered a few days ago I had tweeted this was one of the best songs I have ever heard, and I meant it when i said it.
So if I rip the audio, of one of the best songs I have ever heard, from a producer I respect so highly (Sigala), and from a singer that I really like (Ella Eyre), WHAT HOPE IS THERE FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?
So I couldn’t do it.
I just decided to scrap the whole project, until I can buy the songs off iTunes, maybe I’ll do the mashup then.
But for now, it’s gonna have to wait.
Much respect & love to the artists for making such amazing & inspiring music.
Now I see things this way, I can never rip audio from the internet without the artists' permission. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean I should.
