I thought I'd start off a thread on obscure software, or in other words, software that some people might not be aware of that exists. Contributions to this thread should focus on software that is not as well known and would be useful to others. This thread is not about, "Who can find the most obscure software." This thread also doesn't have to be about music-related software. It can be about any type of software you deem to be obscure, yet useful. I'll start this thread off. Foobar2000 (Windows, iOS, Android)Foobar2000 is a lightweight alternative to the Windows Media Player, and is capable of playing all major audio file formats right out of the box. It also comes with add-ons which you can download to expand it's capability, such as adding more obscure audio file formats and custom looping playback. Pros: - Instant start-up
- Lightweight while running
- Ability to install add-ons
- The interface isn't ugly
Cons: - Installing add-ons requires reading(still not that hard though)
- The interface isn't that flattering/modern
- Some basic functions as looping are add-ons
- Only available on Windows, iOS, and Android
I definitely recommend checking it out, as it has made me ditch Windows Media Player entirely.
